This Aka Matsuba is from breeder Marusei. Marusei is one of the biggest Koi farms in Niigata, who lays claim to two Grand Champions of the All Niigata Koi Show.
'Aka' means red in Japanese and 'Matsuba' means pinecone, referring to the reticulated (netlike) black pattern on the scales. This Koi provides contrast in a pond with lighter-coloured varieties.
